Lawsuit 1

Back in late 2015, Spotify was sued for failing to pay royalties to the artists whose music is featured on this online streaming service. David Lowery, frontman for the band “Cracker,” filed for a class actions lawsuit seeing over $150 million in damages. According to, “Spotify knowingly, willingly, and unlawfully reproduces and distributes copyrighted compositions without obtaining mechanical licenses.” According to different sources, Spotify has created a reserve fund to pay royalties for song use that ranges from $17 million to $25 million.
