Students and Millennials around the world have come to love Spotify. It gives users access to over 30 million songs, videos, and podcasts; streaming when and what you want at the click of a button.
This streaming service was founded on April 23, 2006 by Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon in Stockholm, Sweden. The inspiration behind the “Netflix of music” was based off the “everyone deserves” attitude from CEO, Ek. Instead of another “iTunes” where you have to pay song by song, he felt people should have access to whatever they pleased, with or without paying a monthly fee.
Spotify offers two different subscriptions; free and Spotify Premium. The free accounts limit your amout of skips, control the order your playlist streams, and they play ads every 30 minutes or so. Premium is the better deal, whether you’re a student or someone who listens while reminiscing on old times. The pros outweigh the cons here! Unlimited skips, ability to rewind, play whatever song in whatever order, customized play lists with the collection of “big data” and your “play” history, and many more. Students who prefer premium have the option of paying $4.99 a month versus the normal $9.99.
Originally only available in Sweden and the UK, Spotify is now available in 20+ countries and can be accessed in over 50 languages.
